Brooklyn Avenue Block Association - Meeting Notes
Minutes of the BABA Brooklyn Meeting Sunday, July 21 at 11am
Location: Backyard of 251 Brooklyn Ave.
Minutes of previous meeting on June 11 were approved
Dung La reported that we failed to make the second round of judging in the Greenest Block in Brooklyn contest. However, we still might win one of the other categories. Most likely is “Rookie of the Year.”
Dung plans to go ahead with greening the block, building wooden boxes, filling them with soil, and doing more planting.
We now have 20 bags of compost – soil is not a problem.
The Block Party is now scheduled for Sept. 22. 10am-4pm with an hour to set up and another to take down. A permit application has been submitted and refined to deal with city regulations. The remaining problem would be getting a certificate of safety and insurance if we got a bouncer.
Other ideas were, street games conducted by Joy and Robin Lyde, a chess set with child size pieces, a basketball hoop. We wish to have music, but not so loud that it disturbs residents. Food will be provided by residents. Rosalind recommended grilled hot dogs and hamburgers. We will get a list of what others might provide.
Helen Chernikoff will keep a master list of what will be included in the party.
Appreciation was expressed for the second Little Library provided by Feler Dureus. There was discussion of how to deal with the problem of people who clean out the whole library.
The Stoop Party idea was put on hold for the time being.
The meeting was adjourned at 1pm. No next meeting has yet been scheduled.
